Magdy Alanani
Postdoctoral Fellow
Through his Ph.D. studies, Magdy developed a structural optimization framework for lateral load resisting systems layout. His research experience focuses on structural optimization, wind engineering, Finite Element Analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics, and machine learning applications in structural engineering.
Raghdah Al-Chalabi
Ph.D. Candidate
Raghdah specializes in structural engineering with a focus on wind resilience using wind tunnel and CFD simulations. She earned her MPhil from the University of Manchester. An avid runner, she enjoys meeting people worldwide.
Mostafa Elhadari

Mostafa graduated from Ain Shams University with M.S.c and B.Sc. degrees. He is interested in seismic design of steel structures,  connection behavior and non-linear simulation techniques.  His recent research work is on bolted connections of modular steel structures.

Tristen got his M.Sc. Civil Engineering under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Elshaer with the focus on Wind-induced Structural Pounding. He is continuing his Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering on the Performance of Modular Homes within Indigenous and Remote Communities.
Amir Ali

Amir, a Ph.D. student at Lakehead University, has a specialty in structural engineering with a focus on developing a thermally efficient and sustainable composite insulation material for modular housing. He earned a master’s degree from China in 2022. Plays cricket and football.
Kendra McTavish

Kendra completed her undergraduate degree in civil engineering, working on a degree project related to a multi-hazard assessment of high-rise buildings under the supervision of Dr. Elshaer. She is pursuing her M.Sc. degree under Dr. Elshaer's supervision, assessing the behaviour of fibre-reinforced concrete columns subjected to fire.
Stephen Vasilopoulos
M.Sc. Student
Stephen completed his undergraduate degree in civil engineering, working on a degree project related to a multi-hazard assessment of high-rise buildings under the supervision of Dr. Elshaer. During his studies, he worked with Gerrits Engineering Limited as a designer in both civil land development and structural engineering departments. He is currently pursuing a M.Sc. under Dr. Elshaer's supervision, focusing on developing a machine learning-based surrogate model for structural analysis of tall buildings subjected to wind load.
Ashika Lakshini Senarathne

Ashika, a Civil Engineering Masters student at Lakehead University, is currently working on her thesis project with a focus on wind tunnel designing using CFD simulations. She earned her B.Sc. with Honors from Birmingham City University (United Kingdom). Beyond academics, she enjoys hiking, singing, playing guitar, and adores pet dogs.

Sanduni is a Master's student at Lakehead University and her research interest is in nano-modified cementitious composites. She got her BEng from Sichuan University in 2021. She enjoys dancing and exploring new places.

Shakiba is a M.Sc. Civil Engineering student at Lakehead University. Her research focuses on the punching shear behaviour of FRP-reinforced concrete members, utilizing machine learning algorithms and analytical equations. She enjoys reading books and exploring global culinary traditions.

Mu'taz Suleiman
M.Sc. Student
Mu'taz has been studying civil engineering for the past seven years. He met Dr. Elshaer while doing his undergraduate studies at Lakehead University. He has taken wind engineering as an elective, and since then, he has decided to pursue a master's degree in this field. He has always wanted to be involved in essential yet challenging projects to enrich his knowledge about this industry further. He is currently a technical coordinator in the micro-climate department at RWDI.
Ravali Koppula

Ravali Koppula worked as an MSc student under the supervision of Dr. Elshaer on a research project titled "Experimental Testing of Retrofitted Reinforced-Concrete Columns Using CFRP Wrapping After Standard Fire Exposure." Her research focused on improving the structural integrity and fire resistance of reinforced-concrete columns through innovative retrofitting techniques. She is a dedicated and diligent researcher with a strong background in civil engineering.
Tom Chen
M.Sc. Student
Tom has completed a MASc Degree in Structural Engineering, specializing in Computational Fluid Dynamics. His research topic was on the Numerical Investigation of the Built Urban Environment Immersed in the Atmospheric Boundary Layer. He worked on cutting-edge simulation software at Orbital Stack (at RWDI) as Software Developer and he is currently a System Development Engineer II at Amazon Web Services. Outside of school and work, He enjoys weightlifting, cooking/baking, and playing video games.
Ellen Mulcahy

Ellen completed her Bachelor of Engineering - Civil in May 2020. Dr. Elshaer was the advisor for the final year degree project group. Her research topic was the structural performance of a lattice tower under extreme loading using AEM. She is currently working with a consultant in the Freight Rail and Transit sector.
Jayshri Maruthamuthu

Jayshri completed her B.Tech at NIT Trichy and engaged in a MITACS Summer Research Project. Her project, titled "Numerical Investigation on the Bending Response of Cold-Formed C-Channel Beams in Modular Buildings," involved the use of FEM using LS-Dyna.
Sharan Manoharan

Sharan worked during his undergraduate MITACS Globalink Research Internship on the topic "Modular Construction for indigenous housing solutions". His work involves modelling and investigating various connections in modular homes and creating simulations that help replicate the real-world scenario to study its behaviour further. Beyond academia, He does digital art and writes poems/songs. Also, He likes cats.
Muhammad Ibrahim

Muhammad worked with Dr. Ahmed Elshaer during his undergraduate MITACS Globalink Research Internship. His topic of research was 'Innovative techniques to reduce wind impact on houses.' He is a recent graduate aerospace engineer and currently preparing for my master's degree in the sustainable energy sector. His career goal is to have a major positive impact on the Earth utilizing my expertise.
